Jordan and I spent the last 2 days at Cub Camp. He's a Webelo so it's his last year.
His first station was science. They learned about sled dogs in Alaska and then made their own sleds. They tried them out on a cardboard hill. Jordan's was the only one I saw that actually made it down the hill. He was also the only one I saw that had straws at the bottom of his sled. Everyone else just had popsicle sticks on the bottom.
Jordan's friend Hunter with his sled.
Jordan's favorite station is archery.
Next they played Capture the Flag during field spots. Jordan did great freeing his teammates from jail.
For scout skills they learned how to fold and raise and the flag.
This year their were new directors. They changed a few things. It started a half hour earlier, and ended right on time (or even a little early) instead of 15 minutes late. They also cut out cooking (which Jordan was very disappointed about) and added a camp activity after lunch. Yesterday the activity was tug-o-war. They tried to have about the same number of kids competing from each den. Jordan was one of the ones from his den to be able to compete. They won their first round.
And their second...
But lost the third to the team that ended up being the ultimate champion.
Next they shot BB guns. Jordan is sitting at the end of the bench.
For crafts they stamped leather on necklaces to hold the beads they were earning at each station.
For woods, they made tool boxes. Jordan did a fantastic job building his on his own.
Our stake wanted to meet at the stake center at 7 to carpool. I thought that was way too early since it was only about 20 minutes away and started at 8:30 (although we could sign in as early as 8.) Since they had enough drivers I decided to just drive Jordan and Hunter. We left our house a little before 8, picked up Hunter, and arrived around 8:25. We were one of the last ones there (and still had plenty of time before the flag ceremony) and so we didn't have anyone blocking us in so we were the first to leave. It was so great. :)
Day 2 started with woods, but it was a hard project that needed lots of help from the adults so I forgot to get a picture of Jordan. They made boxes. They had to mark where they were going to drill holes for nails, drill the nails (with a manual drill), and hammer the pieces together. They didn't get as far as they were hoping to get because it was taking so long.
Next they went on a nature walk for science and learned to identify different plants.
They planted strawberries.
Next was archery, still Jordan's favorite.
Then they played a ball rolling game and Sharks and Minnows during field sports.
Then we had lunch.
For the all-camp activity they did a team race. They did a three legged race, then had to do a wheelbarrow race back. Next they made themselves into a human knot and had to untie themselves. The kids didn't seem to love the human knot part, but were happy when they were able to untie themselves (with the help of adults guiding them.)
For scout skills they learned about fishing and were able to practice casting. There was also a dead fish sitting in ice they were allowed to touch. Some of the kids were playing with it a lot and putting ice in it. And then they didn't even wash their hands. So gross. They also got to try a fish nugget. Jordan didn't love it, which surprised me. I thought he would really like it.
Next they did BB guns. Jordan shot from the ground this time. He shot from a sitting position.
A laying down position.
And standing up. All his targets hit his paper, and he had one bulls-eye while laying down.
His last station was crafts. They stamped leather again to decorate sliders for their handkerchiefs.
Jordan loved Cub Camp this year! After we took Hunter home, we drove to my parents' house to pick up the other kids. They were there from Monday evening until today. It was much easier leaving them there than at friends' houses for such a long time. I'm grateful my parents are will to keep them for a few days :) And the kids had so much fun!
Jordan wanted to swim until dinner. Coleman threw rings in the pool, and Jordan dove for them.
Kenzie showed me her new diving skills. She's really improved the last couple days. Her hands even hit the water first now :)
Coleman often walks very close to the edge of the pool. He is often warned that he might fall if he goes too close. Tonight he actually fell in, with his clothes on. I thought it was funny. He didn't. He told me, "You're not even one bit sad I fell in." I told him I was 10 bits sad that he got a scratch though:)
