Mackenzie likes to eat oatmeal for breakfast everyday. She also likes to help me make it by helping to pour the oatmeal and water into the bowl. Before we add the water she always loves to eat the oatmeal. I think it seems pretty gross, but I think it's actually the reason she wants to help me make her breakfast.Saturday, October 29, 2011

Conversation with Jackson
Jack: What if we would have named Colie Spongebob?
Me: Uh, that would have been weird...
Doug: You can name your son Spongebob.
Jack: No, I'll be at work.
Us (confused): you'll still have to pick out a name.
Jack: I'll be at work. So my wife will think of a name.
Us: Do you think she'll choose Spongebob?
Jack: No, I'm not going to really name my son that.
Jordan: I'm gonna name my son Spongebob. (I don't know if he even knows who Spongebob is...)

Random Pictures...

Jackson loves wearing his shin guards around the house. He and Jordan play sports almost every day together. They're kind of playing "house" I think. Jack says what they're doing next and sometimes tells Jordan things like "if you don't finish this game, you can't play the next one" (which is always one that Jordan will really like.)

Mackenzie loves peanut butter. She sometimes just tries to eat the peanut butter off of the bread instead of eating the bread with it. She does that with peanut butter crackers too. Sometimes I let the boys make their own sandwiches and if I'm not right there and Kenzie is she sticks her hand in the peanut butter jar. She also likes to bring a stool or chair by me when I make lunch and tries to scrape some of the peanut butter off the sandwiches.
I made my first attempt at potty training Kenzie several weeks ago. She didn't catch on. But she does like her Dora underwear :) I've decided my new theory is that I try to teach my child for one week and then a couple months later I try again, and that's when they actually get it...
Kenzie usually eats her oatmeal after we get home from taking Jack to school. That way she gets to sleep a little longer. She often has a banana on the way to school.
Mackenzie changes her close like 10 times a day. I always put her in pants in the morning and she often ends up in this skirt. Or another skirt. Or Jackson and Jordan's pants. Or pajama pants. Plus different shirts. And different socks. And different shoes. And she also likes to just walk around with a shirt and her diaper on.

Kenzie also likes to put on Coleman's shorts... And they actually fit her. She also likes to get her binky out of her bed.
The boys have reading time everyday after lunch to give us all a little alone time. One day Jack grabbed this laundry basket to read in.
Do you see something unusual in our fridge? Maybe the yellow chip bag? Jordan put them in the fridge to keep them cool until later. He still has finished eating them.
Learning to read
Jordan has been learning to read for the last coupon months. We started a week or so after Jackson started school. We've been using "Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons" and it's been working really well. He knew all the letters and the sounds they make before we started and I think that has helped him a lot. He has a hard time focusing sometimes though. Whenever he gets to a word he thinks he doesn't know he starts looking at other things. Jackson's also good at distracting him by his talking and doing art projects. Jordan also likes to count the question marks, periods and words that are repeated. He does better reading the stories that are at the end of each lesson than he does with reading the other words that aren't in the story. My sister wanted me to put up a video of him reading so here it is (this was one of his better, well-focused reading lessons. usually it takes much longer to get through the story):
Halloween Crafts
We've done a few Halloween crafts over the last couple weeks. Jack, Jordan, and I made some spiders and I Jordan, Kenzie, and I made pumpkins (when Jack was at school.) We also have made some Halloween cookies. Jackson and Jordan have been drawing pictures of ghosts, monsters, scarecrows, bats, and birds and they've been hanging them up all over. Jackson usually tells and shows Jordan how to make them. It's pretty cute.

4 Month Old Coleman
Coleman is 4 months old already! We can believe it. In fact, I told Jack a couple days ago that Coleman is 4 months old now and he said "we don't want him to grow up." After I agreed he said we also don't want Kenzie to grow up. But he did say he wants Jordan to grow up (and Jordan said he does want to grow up too :)). Jack then told me that he doesn't want to grow up because he doesn't want to leave us. I told him he could live with us as long as he wants... After that we were talking about how Doug and I will be his kids' grandparents and he said, "you guys will be old.... I don't want you to get old." He's a sweet boy :)And now back to Coleman... Here's some pictures from 3-4 months.

I found out that if I cover the flash on the camera that the pictures turn out red. I thought it was pretty cool...
Here's a few things about him these days:
He rolls over sometimes from his tummy to his back but not consistently.
He loves when we say "Colie, Colie, Colie, Colie,Colie"
He doesn't like to be alone.
He loves being held.
He smiles a lot.
He loves his siblings and gets so happy when he sees them and especially when they talk to him. (whenever he smiles at Kenzie she says "Colie's so excited to see me :))
