Dance Family: March 2020

Quarantine

We had our first week of full quarantining this week. We didn't go anywhere except to the grocery store (and I stopped by a friend's house to pick up some dice for Jackson's Dungeons and Dragons game.) So far we're not minding staying home.

We did our state testing. Mackenzie and Jackson always hate this week.

But Coleman and Jordan both love it.

One day, after dinner when the kids were cleaning up I noticed Coleman sitting back, relaxing with his foot on the table while the other kids were doing all the work. Kenzie came and grabbed his dishes. It was like he was the king :)

Kenzie and Coleman made a "Laughing Show". It was pretty funny :) Since then they both typed up some scripts for another play they're going to practice and perform.

Jackson had a violin lesson online. His group violin class, the kids' piano lessons, Jackson's Dungeons and Dragons, and Kenzie's dance classes are all happening online now. Coleman thought it'd be funny if we did soccer online too. Although, he decided that the games wouldn't work like that:)

And this morning Jackson and Coleman played Cheating Monopoly.

The last week we had co-op, I only had 3 kids in my class. I decided we'd play with snap circuits since we'd learned about circuits the week before. The kids loved it and made obstacle courses for the snap circuit car to go through.

Jordan loves the weights he got from the Crabtrees for his birthday. He was bringing them with him in the car for awhile. And carrying them around the house.

Some friends of our organized a pick up soccer game when we found out soccer was cancelled.

Doug was given the order to work from home the second week of March.

We went to the Crabtrees for Sunday dinner and enjoyed playing games.

The boys have taught Doug to play Pokemon and now they all play a lot.

Kenzie used the face mask she got for Valentine's day.

We went to Covington Fields a few times to play soccer.

Sunny Weekend

Last weekend was so nice and sunny. I made everyone go outside for awhile to take advantage of the sunshine while we could. I knew it would be rainy and cloudy for the foreseeable future.

Kenzie decided to organize the shed. She found a lot of stuff to throw away!

Kenzie showed me she could climb the fence. (Doug didn't think this was a good idea and made her get down a minute later.)

On Sunday one of the kids must have accidentally bumped the knob for our stove releasing natural gas. It was like that for a little while. So when we noticed it, we opened the windows and turned the knob in the off position and went outside for awhile.

Kenzie's half birthday was last Sunday. We gave her some animal cookies. That day was also Grandma Carlson's 93rd birthday! We joined several cousins and my aunts and uncles (and my sisters and parents) in singing happy birthday to her online.

The Coronavirus and Hiking

With the coronavirus spreading across the world, our lives slowly have been changing. First, it was soccer, then Jackson's violin group class, church, co-op, eventually piano and violin lessons have been moved online. And now restaurants, play places, non-essential businesses, and even parks are closed. We're not supposed to leave our house other than going to the grocery store or to see a doctor. We can walk in our neighborhood as long as we stay away from other people. It's pretty crazy. So far, we don't mind it too much. We miss our friends and family, but we do really enjoy staying home. I love that we have so much time to do all the things we don't make time for normally. More games, art, cooking, family Minecraft, movies, downtime, and reading. Plus a lot of companies are offering free educational things that we're trying to take advantage of while we can. I just hope that when it's all over and our lives go back to normal that I feel that we used our time wisely.

But before everything was shut down and we were told to stay in our houses, we went hiking with the Winters.

We went to the place where we had the Gobble, Gobble after Thanksgiving. Jackson and Jordan brought their maps (apparently they've saves all their maps) and let us threw the forest. It was nice to have them take the lead and not need to pay attention to which way we were going :) Coleman and Thane liked trying to find where all the check points were.

Nellie needed a break so we stopped and the kids built a fort.

Jordan Turns 12!

Jordan turned 12! Because of the coronavirus, it was a different birthday than normal. Places were still open then, but Doug didn't want us to go to Chuck E. Cheese or bowling. It was too rainy and cold to do Jordan's next choice of hitting the driving range. So we spent most of the day at home, only going out to get lunch and dinner (and Jackson had violin lessons and I picked up groceries.) Jordan and Doug were supposed to go on a snow camp out from the 13th-14th, but that got cancelled. We still had a great day celebrating Jordan!
