We had a great second week in Hawaii!
These first two pictures are from last week, but from Kenzie's camera.
Kenzie and Nati got some matching nightgowns.
McDonalds! Jackson loves Big Macs and Coleman loves milkshakes.
On Monday we went to Waimea Bay in the morning.
Lots of spikeball happens at the beach.
Kenzie, Alli, and Jackson ready to jump!
There they go!
Kenzie jumped a little later than the others.
Jackson jumping again
Jordan!
Coleman! This was his first time jumping off the high one. He thought it was fun his first jump, but on the second one he hurt his ear somehow. Jackson thought he landed with his head tilted so maybe a lot of water went in his ear.
Swimming
Ashlee caught us taking a picture of ourselves.
Here's our picture!
Cam jumping off the little rock.
Coleman jumped there too. As did several of the other kids.
Kenzie bought a waterproof camera holder and has been taken lots of pictures! She tried to get a video while she was jumping, but it never worked out.
Coleman's poor little ear
Afterwards, we went to Matsumotos' for shave ice!
Then back to the house. Jordan did some boogie boarding.
Nati, Kenzie, Jackson.
On Tuesday, We had a stay at home day for the most part. Kimber and JJ were arriving the next day so we knew we'd have a lot of busy days in a row so we just wanted to have relaxing day. Doug, my dad, Jackson, and Jordan went to the Hawaii Country Club to golf.
Kenzie and Nati
Kenzie boogie boarding. I think this was the day that Kenzie and Nati mostly took turns going in the water so that one could stay with the lawn chairs so no one else could take them :)
On Wednesday we went to Waikiki!
Jordan's throat had started hurting the day before and was still hurt so he rested a bit.
It was actually kind of cloudy while we were there. We didn't think it was ever cloudy on that side of the island. It's usually so hot.
Snuggly brothers.
Ashlee got me the floaty I'm sitting in. It was so perfect for Waikiki!
There was a 13 year old boy sitting at a table with a chess board set up. Richard and my dad convinced Jackson to go play him. He said he won pretty easily, but thought the kid would be pretty evenly matched with Jordan.
So Jordan went to play. He won 2 out 3. We tried to convince Coleman to go play with him too, but he wouldn't.
Kenzie went and played though. She lost. She doesn't know any strategy, just how the pieces move. My dad went over when Kenzie and Nati were there and then he played the kid a few games. Afterwards, the boy (his name is Max) asked Kenzie and Nati for their numbers! He texted them for a day or two, but since then, I think they haven't been texting. It sounds like he lives in Waikiki so maybe we'll see him and his chessboard there when we go again.
Most of us went to Cheeseburger in Paradise for dinner. But Kenzie went with Michelle, Nati, and Kenna to get acai bowls. She thought it was "delish"!
On Thursday, everyone but the OG Ridings (as we're calling ourselves this year) went to swim with sharks, while in a cage. The people were in the cage, the sharks were outside of the cage. They all had a lot of fun. The boat made a lot of them feel queasy and a couple of them threw up. But other than that they all enjoyed it. I was surprised Coleman wanted to go. He's brave now that he's a teenager. He's swam with sharks and jumped off of high cliffs.
They swam with Galapagos sharks, which are apparently pretty friendly sharks.
Jordan and Jackson in the cages. They all say the scariest/hardest part was trying not to get whipped around and into the cage.
Half the group was in the cage at a time. This looks like Cam, Konrad, Nati, Jackson (or Jordan, it's hard to tell), Kenzie, Jordan (or Jackson) and Coleman.
After everyone came home, we just hung out at our beach. Jackson surfed. Doug, Jordan, Richard, and my dad went golfing at Kahuku.
Jackson and Jordan boogie boarding.
It was so windy this past week that we sat up in the grass more often when we weren't swimming because the sand was blowing all over.
Ashlee and Michelle took this girls to get free slurpees at 711 since it was 7/11. Doug, the big boys, and I didn't want to get one because it was almost dinner time. Coleman doesn't like them. That night we had date night at the Kahuku food trucks! I got my garlic chicken from my favorite Thai food truck.
After dinner we went to watch the Sunset at Sunset! Almost all of us got in the water. Only Ashlee, Konrad, and my parents didn't get in. It was cold at first, but as long as kept swimming around we kept warm. And it wasn't as cold as I expected when we got out.
Kenzie, Kimber (I finally got a picture of her after she showed up the night before!) and Nati. Jackson in the background ready to do a flip off of probably Jordan's shoulders.
Coleman worked on his flipping skills too.
Doug and I keeping warm after we got out.
Cam, Kenzie, Nati
The boys played some 3v3 spikeball.
Alli and Kenna decided it's tradition for them to make brownies after watching the sunset at Sunset.
On Friday morning we went to Shark's Cove to do some snorkeling.
Half the group set up in the sand and half set up in the rocks in another area.
Doug hiding from the rain.
We all got to swim with this turtle! Kimber took this picture! It's so clear!
Next we went to Matsumoto's. Kenzie got all the blue flavors: blue vanilla, blue pineapple, and blue raspberry.
Then we went to Pipeline. Kimber picked all the places she thought JJ would like and that she wanted to show him.
The waves were pretty big!
Doug running out of the water.
Next just us Dances went to Ka'ena Point. We met Hunter and Sunny and their baby Revel there. Then we hopped in their truck (the kids rode in the back) and drove on dirt roads that Sunny has a pass to go on to a pretty secluded area.
It was so pretty! And empty of people.
We explored a bit while Hunter grilled some burgers for us.
We found a crab!
All of us! It was great to meet Sunny and Revel for the first time!
Hunter brought a polaroid camera and took a great picture of us! We took a picture of the polaroid.
The kids in the back of the truck. Coleman was happy to get the comfy seat this time (Kenzie sat in it on the way there). It was a bumpy ride, but I think they had fun back there.
When we got home, while Doug was showering, water came pouring out of the bathroom. We checked with Doug to make sure he was okay (he was) and that he didn't leave the curtain outside of the shower (he didn't). He noticed it was coming from the bottom of the toilet. It was sewer water coming up, but luckily it was clear. After checking the Crabtree's bathroom, we found that water was coming out of there too. And dirty brown water was coming up in the shower. My mom called Pam, the owner, and she sent a cleaner and a plumber to help get this cleaned and fixed. While she was taking care of the that we used almost all the towels we could find and soaked up the water. Then I swiffered with a Clorox wipe. Then Ashlee sprayed all the contaminated areas with a Clorox spray. After waiting 10 minutes we wiped all the floors. Soon after that, the cleaner and then plumber showed up. They were there until around 1:30 am and the plumbing wasn't fixed. So we had to use the Kenyons and my parents' bathrooms in their cottages (luckily they were still usable!) until Saturday afternoon when it was all finally fixed. It was a crazy night!
The used towels. The cleaning people took the towels and rugs and cleaned them.
Waiting for everything to be fixed/cleaned. Most of the family likes to go to bed around 9:30 so it was an extra late night for them!
On Saturday, we had a lazy morning, and then headed to Kailua. It was a bit cloudy and windy even on that part of the island and most the girl kids decided they didn't really love the beach. But everyone else had fun :)
It rained for a bit. My dad, Ash and Cam hid under towels
Jackson, Jordan, Coleman, and my dad had chicken fights. Grandpa and Coleman won the most.
They made a ball ramp! I thought it was such a fun idea.
Then we went to Makapuu to watch the big waves and surfers. And lots of pictures were taken because it's so beautiful there.
Doug told Jordan to not move while Doug videoed him while circling him.
Afterwards we went to dinner. We were all going to go to a Mexican restaurant Michelle found, but it was really small and it would have taken along time for all 18 of us to sit. There were a lot of other food options around so half the group ate elsewhere. But those of us that had Mexican thought it was so good and worth the wait. The lame thing was we had to pay for the seconds of chips and salsa.
Today a lot of us went to church in the morning. Some went hiking to Waimea Falls. We watched the Wimbledon finals game (and some of us were excited Alcaraz won!) And then some went to the Byodo-In temple, while others stayed home and played games and did other things. Jackson slept most of the time after church because he stayed up until 5:30 because he wanted to watch the tennis match live.
These are Doug's pictures from the temple. Only he and Jordan went from the Dance family.
This is a long post! Lots of fun things happened this week!
