Advice

Well, I decided to start trying to potty training Jackson. Trying is the key word. Jack doesn't have any interest in it. We started yesterday morning wearing real underwear. He didn't really want to put them on. He apparently likes diapers. He hasn't actually gone to the bathroom in the toilet yet, but I think we're making a little progress because he'll sit on the toilet without crying now. He just won't go. Today he went right after I sat him on the potty twice in his underwear. So I need advice. I know boys often don't potty train until later, but I think it Jack could do it. But I'd like to know if anyone has any success tips. What has worked for you guys that have potty trained your children (especially your boys)? How long does it usually take until they kind of start to get it? Is it normal to not have much success after two days?

I tried anything, but mostly candy treats. At first, I was pretty liberal with giving it away, like just sitting on the toilet and they got a treat, but after a few times then I would say that they would have to go potty to get a treat and so on...

I also made a potty chart. It was basically a paper that had toilet icons on it. We would work gradually, just the same as with candy, but my kids love putting stickers on charts, so it worked really well. I got Anna to sleep in her own bed this way, too.

Best advice is good luck and have a lot of patience. Be ready to clean-up even after you think they have made it.
