Butterflies

We bought some caterpillars to watch them grow and turn into butterflies.

They were so cute and tiny when we got them.

They grew quickly.

Then they weren't so cute.

Eventually they started making chrysalids.

One never did make a chrysalis and died.

We transferred them to the butterfly cage.

A few of them were knocked to the ground :( the poor one that first started to come out never was able to make it all the way out. One of the other ones that fell didn't seem to be able to fully detach itself from its chrysalis and couldn't fly very well. The 3rd one was okay though.

We decided to release the ones that had emerged yesterday.

While we were outside the last one came out. But as soon as he did he fell to the ground. But we were able to help it and it crawled to the side of the cage and its wings were able to fully expand. Taking care of these butterflies was a lot trickier than I thought it would be!
