Hawaii Week 2

Week 2 started on July 11. We should have went to 711 to get free Slurpees, but we didn't. That's makes 3 years in a row I've missed it. Actually, the only year I think I have gotten them, I almost totaled my car trying to turn into the parking lot. Maybe I subconsciously avoid 711 that day now... Anyways, I don't have any pictures from that day. We went to the swap meet and  bought lots of fun souvenirs (I can never spell that word right the first time. Actually I can't ever spell it right. I have to use spell check to get it right. And I think it usually takes at least 2 tries to get it so that spell check recognized what word I'm trying to spell). Jackson was still sick this day so he road in the stroller while we shopped, along with Kenzie most of the time. We also got snow cones while we were there. After we got some Pizza Hut and went to the "Beach with the Island", as Doug named it. To the rest of the world it's called Koalua (I think). This beach plays an important roll in our trip home, so try to remember it for when that post comes. We met Michelle and Ashlee and there kids there. Konrad was working and Richard was in Oregon. My parents were at home (I think). My mom had gone to the swap meet, but wanted to go home after. The beach wasn't a very good one. There was a lot of sea weed or coral. I'm not sure which. And then it started pouring. So my kids started crying. I grabbed Kenzie and we ran to the bathroom which was covered. Several of the other kids, including a crying, sick Jack, followed me. Then we went home.
That night my mom, sisters, niece (Kimber) and I went to the Ha, The Breath of Life show at the Polynesian Cultural Center. It was really good and really fun.

Week 2, Day 2: Kahala Resort.
We went to the Kahala resort last time we went to Hawaii too. But that time we only watched the dolphins and then left. This time we decided to stay and play at the beach for awhile, since it's a public beach. We got up and got ready and left. My little family left before everyone else. But we were the last ones there. Doug claims he's not a slow drive. I disagree :) We watched the dolphins for awhile then went to the beach. My kids really liked this beach. I'm pretty sure it was Jackson's 2nd favorite beach (I should remember; he told me many times the order of his favorite beaches. He loves ranking things..) After we were there for a few hours we decided to go to Waikiki because the parking here was pretty expensive and at Waikiki it's only $1 per hour.  I don't have any pictures from Waikiki, but we just played in the water and had fun :) We ate at a burger place for dinner. (I don't remember what it was called. Maybe Burgers from Paradise?) And then Doug and I took our kids to International Market and got some shirts and watched the candle makers (although they weren't doing anything very cool when were were watching.)

The lady is feeding the dolphins. We saw them do some jumping too while we were there.

Colie with a smoothie face. We brought him smoothies for lunch everyday. The blender we had was no Vitamix though. :)

Jack, Kimber, Kenz, and Sam (I think) Kenzie loves playing with Kimber so much. And Kimber is good with her. She played with her a ton.

Nati, Kimber, Colie, Kenna
Coleman started liking to play in the water here. I think it was because the water was so calm he wasn't afraid of the waves.

Coleman loves Kimber too. He almost always wanted her to hold him if he sees her. She's so good with kids.

Jack was finally feeling better! Yay! I think one of his very favorite things about Hawaii was the chips. We don't usually buy chips here. But in Hawaii he got chips almost every day for lunch. He also loved having Caprisun most days for lunch.

Cute baby.He responds to the name "baby." I call him that a lot and he always looks when I do. I love it :)

There was an island a little ways off the shore. So Ashlee, Shell, and my dad took Ash and Shell's kids to it.

Then Doug took our our kids. At first he was going to take all of them except Coleman, but then Jordan didn't want to go. I thought he was a little crazy, since none of them can swim and 2 of them would likely freak out if they were in the water and couldn't touch. So it was probably good Jordan didn't go. I thought Kenzie wasn't going to be upset riding in the floatie thing, but I think she did fine. At least I couldn't hear her screaming... and she's pretty loud. :)

There they are on the island. My dad and Sam swam out there again too.

Kimber, Nati, and Shell.

Week 2, Day 3. Friday.
We spend most of the day at home this day. It was rainy and we needed a calmer day after the last 2  busy days. And Kenzie and Coleman needed some good naps.

The boys were happy to play the wii. They loved being at the house :)

Coleman loved climbing on the thing. I liked it because he can't get off it and so it would keep him contained when I was doing something else. He did fall off a couple times though. Not too many... And he was always fine.

We went to Matsumotos in the afternoon after naps. The rest of the family went to Sunset too. But we didn't think we'd have enough time to do that after Matsumotos. Maybe we were in charge of dinner. Or maybe it's just because it takes us much longer to do anything because of the amount and smallness of our kids...

Colie loved the shave ice.

Week 2, Day 4, Saturday.
This was a very busy day. We got up early (which really means, I didn't get to lay in bed very long, because we were always awake early.) We started of the day going to Makapu'u Beach, which was an hour away. It's one of the few beaches on the island that has big waves at this time of the year. The boys wanted to try body surfing and boogie boarding in some big waves. We had a long hot walk through the hot sand to get to the side of the beach that the lifeguard told us to go to. (it wasn't really that long. But it seemed long. and I had to got there and back twice to take a certain little girl potty.) There was no shade there so it was really hot. Not that we usually sat in the shade. Well, Jack would always try to if there was any. He doesn't really like the sun. He's a true Washingtonian. The waves were cool. Only the dads went in the water. The kids weren't allowed. In fact, when my sister first walked down on the beach with her kids, the lifeguard told her there are better beaches for kids and that they couldn't swim in the water. We could only let them put their feet in and we had to by them the entire time. After lunch we left and everyone else except me and my kids went on a hike to the Makapu'u Lighthouse. They all had fun, but said it was a good thing I didn't go. It was apparently really close to a steep edge at some spots, and I'm a little afraid of heights, especially with little kids who don't pay attention and could easily walk off the edge. And I think they said it would have been hard wit the stroller, which we would have used because it was a paved hike. And I had heard that there was no shade, so my kids probably would have whined the whole time about that :). Instead, the kids and I drove around for the next hour or two. They slept most of the time. Except for Jordan. He's a sleep fighter. He does everything in his power to not sleep whenever he can. After they were done we picked Doug up and went to a blowhole that was down the road. I thought it was pretty cool. Then we went to Sandy Beach to watch the waves and again just get our feet wet. This beach was another one that had huge waves and we couldn't go in. The boys didn't even try it. My parents hadn't been with us the rest of the day, and they met up with us here. Michelle's family (Richard was back again) went to Kailua instead so their kids could actually swim. We were at Sandy beach for an hour or so jumping the waves by the shore. This beach was Jordan's favorite beach. He loved the waves I guess. he had fun holding hands with grandpa and jumping and sometimes getting pulled by the waves. I thought this beach was a little stressful. I was worried the kids were going to get sucked back into the deep ocean. Luckily no one did. :) After this we got some dinner, probably at Pizza Hut, since we went there a ton... Or maybe we ate some leftovers at the house (which is much less likely... we're not really a left over family. ) Ash and her family and my parents went to Kailua to meet up with Michelle's family. We thought we would go to Kailua another day, but we never did end up getting there.

Makapu'u Beach:
Alli and Kimber.

Sam and Kenna.

Jordy Boy.

Jackson.

Ash and Nati.

The boys playing in the water. Isn't it beautiful and so blue?

You can see the lighthouse they hiked to in the distance on the side of the mountain.

Kenzie didn't like this beach, I guess.

Doug took the kids crab hunting.

This picture just makes me laugh. His face looks so chubby.

3 matching boys jumping.

3 matching boys stacking.

1 cute girl eating fishing with a spoon. (The boys saw this picture yesterday and thought it was so funny :)

Jordan eating his sunchips.

Jack created his own shade.

Doug's pictures from the hike:

This is as close as they actually got to the light house.  They hike doesn't really take you all the way there.

Blowhole:

Our first family picture in Hawaii this year. I think my hair looked like this most of the time we were there. Wind blown and crazy :) But at least it was super easy to do, right?

Week 2, Day 5, Sunday.
We went to Church. Then spend the rest of the day at home :)

Week 2 Day 6, Monday.
We went to Hukilau in the morning and some of the afternoon. Than after my sisters, mom, and I went to Costco and Walmart to stock up on food for the next we weeks. It took us 4 hours to do the trip because it's so far away and we needed so much.

Cute Colie.

He was burying his leg.

He's pretty proud of himself.

Kimber and Kenzie.

Kenna and Richard, with my dad in background.  Richard brought the surfboard and helped the kids ride it. Some of the adults tried it out too.

Coleman fell head first into the sand. :)

Nati

Kenzie and Nati.

Colie.

Doug tried to help Jordan boogie board. It didn't go so well...

Michelle heading out to surf.

Colie and Nati.

Jordie. (have you noticed that we nick name all are kids something that ends in ie? Except Jackson. It started after him. But now we know we can't choose a name for our kids that sounds weird if it house the ie sound at the end of. Like Mason because Masie, which is a girl name. Too bad, because I've always liked that name. Not that we're thinking of names right now. I still have to convince my husband he wants more kids :))

Sam being nice and building a pool for Nati. She was always asking people to make her pools :)

Coleman liked the pools too. And he loves playing with Sam.

And Shell.

Jordan, Doug, and Kenzie.

Week 2, Day 7, Tuesday.
We to Waimea Valley this day and then to Waimea Beach. We really liked both. Especially Waimea Valley. We did a little hike there and went to a water fall. It was a paved hike and we brought the stroller. Jordan was a little sick this day. The night before he had a temperature, and this day he seemed better so we still went on the hike. And he did fine, but he rode in the stroller a lot. Especially on the way back. We saw lots of cool plants and huge trees. It was a lot of fun.Oh, and I got a bunch of bug bites. Doug and the kids didn't get many. And I don't think the rest of the family did either. I could be wrong though... At the beach, we drove around for a long time trying to get a parking spot, but couldn't find one, so Doug dropped the kids and me off and went back to Waimea Valley and parked then walked to the beach. It's not too long of a walk. Well, it didn't look long. I didn't actually walk it. Doug picked us up after. The kids liked this beach. The waves were pretty calm.

Kenna wanted to touch the peacock we saw.

Doug by a tree that has Doug or Dug in the name of it. I don't remember what it was called.

Richard, Shell, Kenna, and Nati. My picture were for some reason kind of blurry this day.

Most of the grandkids.

The grandkids.

All of us (except my dad) who went on the hike. He took the picture. My mom didn't come.

Sick Jordan is a lot different from sick Jackson.

Kenna, my dad, Nati.

All the kids had to wear life jackets. The water was really cold. I wasn't brave enough to go in. I'm not really a cold water person...

Doug took the kids in.

Alli.

I love how happy Jordan looks in this picture.

Sam had fun with the water noodle. Jack and Michelle are in the picture too.

Shell and Sam.

My kids expressions in these next pictures make me laugh.

Doesn't this place look cool? We couldn't spent a lot of time here exploring. The trails off the main path weren't very stroller friendly though.

Beach:
Jack had fun playing with Konrad.

Coleman trying to escape.

This post took me about 2 hours to write. Next time I'm going to just blog each day as it happens like my sister did. It's much better and easier and you don't forget everything. And you don't feel as bad using so many pictures because then the 80 something pictures are spread out across 7 posts instead of just one really long post that probably no one wants to read/look at anyways...  Only 2 more weeks left to post about...
