Hawaii Week 1

We went to Hawaii for the month of July. We arrived the 4th and got home on August 1st.We went with my parents, sisters and their families and stayed in a house my parents rented together (Thanks Mom and Dad!!!). We stayed in Laie, right by BYU Hawaii and the temple. We all had so much fun and it went by way too fast. You would think that after a month we'd be ready to come home, but we weren't.  The beach and beautiful weather and beautiful scenery doesn't get old. Here are the pictures from the first week.

The Plane:
The plane ride there went really well. I say by Kenzie and help Coleman in the baby carrier most of the time. Doug sat by the boys and held Coleman some of the time. Kenzie and I did Brainquest (she loves it :)), read books, played on the Kindle, and watched Dora (I did some reading while she watched). Coleman did what we did. :) He slept for about a half hour or so. He didn't cry too much. Doug and the boys played video games most of the time.
Kenzie was happy to have her binky the whole time.

First day: Forth of July.
We were so tired when we got there. I don't remember being so tired the last time we went to Hawaii. Maybe we were, but just forgot. Doug had a bad headache and went to bed when Coleman did at 7 or 8.  All the kids did Pop Its (I think that's what they are called) while the adults watched. As this was going on it started to pour really hard. I was the only adult on the deck with the kids (the rest were on the upper deck watching. Even though we were under a covered area, Nati wanted to go back to the house. So I ran her and Kenzie back to house and we all got pretty wet. The rest of my family said we should have just waited it out since the rain usually doesn't last more that 5 minutes. (They had all been there a couple days already).
 Nati distributed the Pop Its.

The kids all gathered in a circle and tried to throw them at the same time to the center of the circle.

 Day 2: The Beach
On Thursday we hung out at the house in the morning and then went to the beach. Just our little family and my dad went. Everyone one else went shopping. It was really a good beach weather day, but since it was the first day we could go to the beach, we went. It was a little rainy and windy. It wouldn't have been so bad, except that the wind was blowing the sand all over.

Coleman was a little cold from either the rain or the ocean (I don't remember which...) so I bundled him up in the towel.

He was so tired he fell asleep. This didn't happen very often. Actually I think this was the only one of 2 times he fell asleep on the beach.

The next day was again rainy and windy in Laie so we head to Honolulu to Jackson's favorite beach Waikiki. It was probably Kenzie's favorite too. Jordan said it wasn't his though. :) Jackson remembered it from when we came 2 years ago. He loves that he can walk out forever and there were no waves. We spent the whole day there and ate dinner out at the Cheesecake Factory. But before we left both of my sisters found lice in their 6 year old daughters hair. No one else had any. We were all itching though just with the thought of lice. :) My sisters bagged up everything where the girls had been sleeping and did tons of laundry. And sprayed lice killer all over too. Lice is pretty gross, but it wasn't too big of a deal to have the girls still go to the beach so we all still went to Waikiki.

Kenzie loved putting flowers in her hair. She also loves to give them to me.

This was a common sight. One of the boys running up to the towels needing to wipe their eyes to get the water out of them.

Kenna burying Kenzie.

Nati and Sam.

Cute Jordan. He loved wearing a life jacket while playing in the water. He also loved playing with the boogie boards and other floating devices we had. He never went where he couldn't touch though. He loved the water!

Kenzie also did really good in the water. She didn't like the waves at some of the beaches and wouldn't go in by herself. But at Waikiki there aren't waves so she would play in it by herself.

My mom brought these water things. They were a popular item.

Michelle and Richard. They live too far away.

Alli. All 3 of Ashlee's girls are great at getting their picture taken. They see a camera pointed at them and they just smile until you say you're done. It's pretty amazing.

Sam getting buried.

Nati in her "monster" (life jacket).

Jack and Jordan.

I don't have any pictures from Saturday. We went to Haleiwa Beach. It was rainy and windy and cold. We didn't stay very long. But while we were there there were some ladies sitting by us that started shouting to some guys that were jumping off a big rock into the water. We looked over and saw that a girl had started jumping with the guys. The ladies were yelling things like:  "KEEP YOUR EYES TO YOURSELF!" "I SEEN YOUR EYES WANDERING" "WATCH YOURSELF" "I SEEN YOU SNEAKIN' A PEAK" "So and So, GO TELL YOUR DAD TO KEEP HIS EYES TO HIMSELF."  It was pretty funny :) After it started raining pretty hard we ran to the car and went to get some shave ice (that's what they call it in Hawaii... not shaved ice) at Matsumoto's. It was very good. My sisters and their families tried the shave ice place next to Matsumoto's that day and the watermelon just didn't compare. Matsumoto's is way better :) After that we headed to Hukilau (which was only 3 minutes away from our house) hoping for better weather. The weather wasn't much better. It wasn't rainy, but it was windy and sand was blowing all over. Nati and Kenzie (and maybe Jordan or Jack... I don't remember...) wanted to go home so Michelle, my dad (who was having bad back/leg pain and needed to rest) and I went home and put the little kids down for naps. We celebrated Kenna's birthday at the beach. She opened presents and we sang her happy birthday, and we ate cupcakes.

Sunday we walked around the temple for about a half hour since church started at 10, not the 9:00 we were expecting. Then we went to church. We came home and put the little ones down for naps and just relaxed for awhile. Then we went to Turtle Beach to see the sea turtles. There was one just laying in the sand. There was a rope around him so that people wouldn't get close. Jackson wasn't paying attention and walked within a couple feet of him before he realized that he had crossed the line and was right by the turtle. He really confused as to why I was calling him :) Richard went to Oregon late Sunday night. He had to go for a training meeting (I think...) and was gone until Friday.

Kenna, Kimber, Sam, and Jack.
Because of the angle of the sun it was hard to see the turtles. But when we stood on or near this rock we were able to see them a little better than when we were standing on the sand. We could see them when they poked body parts out of the water.

Kenna, Kimber, Sam, Jordan, Jack.

Ash and Konrad.

Kenna's family had been taking a nap when we left (they ended up coming, but they got there right as we were leaving) so we brought Kenna with us. We loved having her in our car. The boys loved playing with her. Everyone was much happier :)

Kenzie wanted me to take a picture of her :)

Monday was one of the few days I got up with Coleman. (He woke up between 6 and 7 almost everyday. I have a wonderful husband who let me sleep in (although half the time I couldn't fall back asleep anyways, but at least I didn't have to get up)) I was kind of grumpy (which is a big reason why it was one of the few days I got up with him... :)). And the kids were kind of grumpy. Everyone else was going to the beach (I'm not sure which one... maybe Hukilau.) I asked each child if they wanted to go to the beach and they all said no. So we decided to go miniature golfing instead. We loved it. The kids kept wanting to go back throughout the month, but we never did go again. Then we go some Pizza Hut for lunch (we ate at Pizza Hut a lot all month long.) Then went back home for the rest of the night I think.

My baby carrier can be used as a front pack, side pack, and back pack. I tried that back pack out for awhile, but it ended up hurting my back and so I switched him around. I'm not completely sure that I was wearing it correctly.

Doug showing Kenzie the right way to putt.

Mackenzie loves to run. She runs almost anytime she can (unless, of course, I want her to.) She was running at this hole from the hole to where you start and fell and hit her head on the bricks. She got a pretty bad scrape on her head, but it wasn't really bleeding and she was okay after a few minutes. It could have been much worse.

Tuesday Jackson had a fever and a sore throat. Doug volunteered to stay home with him so I could go have fun. My sisters, their kids, my 3 healthy kids, and I went to a park in the morning sinice it was cloudy. The kids had a lot of fun playing. While at the park I was looking through Kenzie's hair and found what I thought was lice egg. After going home and washing her hair and combing through it I found that she had several eggs and one bug in her hair. Michelle heard of putting face wash (I can never remember the name of it, but it starts with a c...) all over the hair when someone has lice and it's supposed to kill any live bugs and any eggs. So after combing through her hair and getting out the eggs I could and the one bug I found I lathered it through Kenzie's hair. I found only one egg (which I probably just missed before) and no more bugs. Michelle had found lice in Nati's hair the day before too. But after these 2 there was no more lice! After putting her and Coleman down for a nap I went to Sunset beach with the rest of my family. No one in my little family went (Jordan didn't want to go and Jack was sick, he just slept a ton) so it was a really relaxing trip. I drove with Michelle and she had left Nati at home. So she also thought it was more relaxing too :)
