I took Jackson to the school he'll be going to in the fall for kindergarten round up. He was really nervous about going. When we got there the kids were in one classroom and the parents were in another room listening form the principal and kindergarten teacher. Jack really didn't want me to leave him. He told Doug later that he almost cried because he didn't want me to leave and was so scared. Here's what he told me about his experience:
He didn't color a picture like the other kids.
They watched a movie (about bus safety). They were supposed sit on the carpet. He didn't "but that was ok."
The kids rode on a bus and he didn't like it. He thought it was bumpy and loud and he couldn't wear a seat belt, only the bus driver could wear a seat belt.
He did think his teacher is nice though. Hopefully by September he'll like it better. I told him about the fun things his teacher said they'd do and that helped him be a little more excited. I think he is excited for kindergarten, but nervous too because he doesn't really know anyone that will be in his class.
I found out that the teacher wants the parents of kids who don't ride the bus (like us) to walk their kids all the way to the classroom each day so that the child doesn't end up in the wrong spot. I guess that makes sense since he's so young, but it means that when it's rainy or really windy or snowy I can't just drive him to there and drop him off. I'd still have to walk him to his classroom which would mean I'd have to get the other 3 kids out of the car and bring them too since I don't want to leave them alone in the parking lot where I wouldn't be able to see them. I guess we'll be walking rain or snow or shine...
