Plumbing Woes

Way back on August 6th, Coleman took a bath in our master bath and after he was done, the water came through our ceiling into the kitchen! I was at the Mariners' game with my mom so Doug took care of all the clean up, and put fans under the ceiling to try to dry it.

Doug called a water restoration company to come look at the leak. They put a dehumidifier in the kitchen and tarped it off (we could enter through the zipped up portion) and cut a big hole in the ceiling. They also took out the dishwasher to see if there was any wetness in the wall behind it.

After a week or 2 they finally got it all dry up there. It was so nice to be able to easily go in the kitchen and pantry again. And to not have the loud dehumidifiers going all day. They were so loud! Doug had a couple plumbers come out and give a quote. They both thought the problem was something different. Doug went with the second one who had used a camera to peer up into the ceiling. He had to order a part and then wait until he was available, but eventually he came back and fixed it. After he was done, Doug contacted the water restoration people again and they told him they didn't have time to come back and fix our ceiling so we'd have to find another company. Doug called one that was recommended by our insurance (who paid for most of this!) and they came and fixed it up. They repainted the entire ceiling (including in the living room, hallway, and piano room because they all share the same ceiling) and the whole back wall. The only part of the wall they had to fix was that small section with the blue tape above where the dishwasher goes. But since they had to fix and paint that tiny section, they painted the whole wall. It took them a couple days to fix the ceiling, then about 3 days to paint.

And then our house was finally back to normal! (Now I'm still a little nervous to turn on the water in the bathtub in case it happens again:))
