First Day Back

I had envisioned us having a low key day today since we've been gone so long, but a friend invited us to Kanaskat State Park to play in the river there. We went for a couple hours in the afternoon. We didn't want to have any plans in the morning since we're still on Hawaii time. I wanted to take advantage of my kids sleeping in :)
Kenzie has been wearing headphones around today. It's her new style.

The river was really fun. The kids played on the rocks. The big rock in the background has a cave with water running through it. The kids took a tube back there and rode down it.

Jordan gave Kenzie a ride across the river.

Then he went back to help his brothers who were on a floatie without a paddle.

But he couldn't help then and they all got pulled to the faster moving part of the river. I wasn't that worried, because the water didn't look that fast moving or deep. But everyone else around was a lot more worried, which made me more worried :) A few men further down the river than I was jump in and helped the kids. Jackson and Jordan were clinging to rocks, but Coleman had gotten out at a slower moving place that was also shallow so he walked to the other side and waited for Jackson and Jordan to come help him across. Both Jackson and Jordan said they would have been fine in the river, it was saving the boats that was tricky. None of my kids went across the river once they got back to us.

Jackson pulled all these carrots out today! Some of them had two carrots growing out of one stem. Jordan was curious where carrot seeds are. After looking it up, he learned that second year carrots will flower and that's where the seeds are. Jackson left some in the dirt and I think is planning to leave them until next year. We set up a timer on the sprinkler to water while were away, but the water didn't seem to get his corn, because it was all dead :( that's what he has wanted to grow the most.)

Jackson and Jordan are doing tennis lessons again this month. Kenzie and Colie didn't want to, but then while we were there they kind of wished they had signed up. Coleman said if he new the same guy was teaching it he would have done it again. I didn't really try to convince either of them to since they wouldn't have been able to do the same class as the boys, they would have had to go an hour earlier.

I cut Kenzie's hair for the first time today. I've been cutting Jackson's hair with scissors so I thought I'd try Kenzie's. So far I think it looks fine and even.  This big smile she is giving me is because I just told her I'm saying the prayer in sacrament meeting on Sunday :) She's excited about it.
